獨居動物 Solitary Animal
2019, HD Video, 02:09
The two-channel video Solitary Animal represents Wang Chen's life of “a solitary animal.” It shows Chen's daily life with few socializing via the mild film language and implies her lonely, yet prosperous inner world by poetic existed footages.
For Chen, loneliness always has stayed with her. She hasn't felt belonging to any group, even not to her family. It is nothing to do with living in Australia or China. She thought she has always been a solitary animal, and the same daily routine has repeated over and over for more than 20 years, from her childhood to adult, wherever she was. However, Chen finds loneliness not harmful. She has reconciled with it and showed to the outside that loneliness is a part of her personality. She can't, and she wouldn't like to get rid of it; moreover, she values the significance of it: loneliness makes her focus on life itself and finds much exquisitely hidden beauty ignored by people. Meanwhile, it inspires her to inspect and extend her inner world, not chasing the exterior consumerism.
